Moids Decomposed Body
Do not visit for Funeral
On the 28th of June 2005 Sheikh Waqar Uddin, our eldest Paternal Uncles son calls Umer and Haider to tell them that their father Moid Uddin has passed away. Asma Khala and their sons are shocked to hear the News as there was no prior warning or concern regarding his health, nor were they aware of him being sick. They tell Waqar that they shall leave for Lahore as soon as possible; to which Shiekh Waqar Uddin says that they need not make the trip to Lahore and that they will take care of the funeral and burial of Moid Uddin. An odd suggestion, as there was no way Umer, Haider and Asma Khala were not going to go to Lahore to arrange the funeral of their father and khalas husband and try to understand what had happened to Moid.
Sheikh Waqar Uddin is the youngest son of Moids eldest brother, Immad Uddin (late) who passed away a long time ago. Waqars persistence that Asma Khala and their children should not visit Lahore on their fathers demise was a warning we later found out, we had missed. It was an attempt by Waqar to stop Asma Khala and their children from travelling to their fathers ancestral home 40-E Model Town, Lahore. Waqar lived at 40-E Model Town Lahore at the time of Moids death. Asma Khala and her children found the suggestion of them not going to Lahore to arrange their fathers funeral and burial preposterous.
Letter warning of murder
A couple of days after mum and her sisters funeral, distressed Ms. Amtul, also a teacher, colleague and friend of Asma Khala came to visit Umer and Haider at their house in Wah Cantt. She brought with her a letter that she had received, written in Urdu, she let Umer and Haider read the letter but did not allow them to keep it nor take pictures of it. The letter was addressed to Asma Khala and was received by Ms. Amtul on the 28th of February. Ms. Amtul says that she wanted to bring the letter to Asma Khala on the very same day but was unable to due to rain. She walks and does not have any means of transport. The letter said that Asma Khala and her children should not under any circumstance visit Lahore as the life of Asma Khala and Haider (her middle son) is in danger. It also said that
Body Found
We were told that Moid Uddin was found dead in his room at 40-E Model Town by Waqar, after the stench of the decomposed body had reached the adjoining shared bathroom. We were told that in an attempt to figure out where the stench was originating from, family members went to Moids room and found him dead.
Moids addiction
Asma Khala was working as teacher in a local government school in Wah Cantt and after her marriage to Moid Uddin in 1983, had decided to relocate to Lahore to start a new married life. She had submitted her transfer papers to the government, requesting her job be transferred to a school in Lahore. While her transfer was being processed she found out that Moid was taking drugs.
Moids Decomposed Body
On the day of the funeral 29th June 2005, Moids dead body was brought from the morgue to 40-E Model Town, Lahore by Iftikhar in a Volkswagen microbus. The microbus was brought inside the front gate and parked in the front driveway. People from the neighbourhood had started to gather in the lawn as word spread that the coffin had arrived at the house. Moids coffin was then locked inside the microbus with all its windows rolled up. The stench from the decomposed body inside the coffin was intense and even with the all windows rolled up and doors locked it was hard to go near the vehicle. Iftikhar was adamant that the coffin would not be taken out of the microbus.
People convinced Iftikhar that the coffin should be taken out and put next to the vehicle on the concrete pathway leading up to the house. The coffin was then taken out and placed on the floor. It had no see through glass or window and was a complete wooden box which had been nailed together on all sides, leaving no way to access the inside. The stench was almost unbearable at this point, with most people holding their noses. As their was no way to see inside the coffin, people had no idea who or what was inside the coffin.
Asma Khala was inconsolable and the stench from the coffin made matters worse. She asked Iftikhar to let people open the sealed coffin and he refused. Asma Khala wanted to see what was inside the coffin, as she and Moids three sons (Ayesha, the youngest daughter and fourth child of Moid and Asma Khala is severely disabled and lacks basic understanding and life skills) could already not believe that Moid had passed away, and now they
